Are you curious about Brazilian waxing? Not sure exactly what it is? In this article we will describe what it is, why people get them, who gets them, the benefits of getting it done and when is the best time to book a service.

What is a Brazilian Wax?

A Brazilian wax generally refers to the removal of all pubic hair, resulting in being completely “bare down there” While different salons and spas use various terms for the service (such as French Brazilian, Hollywood, etc.) at (un)SPA a Full Brazilian refers the removal of all hair in the public area and a Playboy Brazilian removes all the hair, but leaves a small “landing strip” or triangle at the top of the pubic region. When you go for a service, make sure that you clearly communicate how much (or how little) hair you want removed prior to your service.

Why do people get Brazilian waxing?

The benefits of a Brazilian waxing are a personal thing. Some women just feel cleaner when all the hair is removed and do it for hygiene reasons. Other women feel that it enhances their sexual experiences. Regardless of the reasoning, with no pubic hair their is no maintenance of trimming or shaving the pubic area which is a real bonus in swimsuit season. Another benefit is the absence of razor rash and bumps. Additionally, when you keep up with the waxing every four to six weeks, the hair grows back finer making it easier to remove and a more comfortable experience.

Who gets Brazilians?

Well, almost anyone who wants the smooth feeling and low maintenance gets a Brazilian waxing. Women of all ages, and even men, get waxed. The service is more popular than ever!

When is the best time to book a service?

It is recommended that you do not get waxed immediately prior, during or right after your menstrual cycle. Menstruation causes the pubic area to be more sensitive and you will be more comfortable during the procedure if you do not schedule during this time. Other than that, any time is a good time to get a Brazilian waxing!

What can you expect?

When you come to (un)SPA for a Brazilian waxing you will be asked to complete a brief health history form to check for any contraindications to waxing. You will be given privacy to undress and get comfortable on our treatment bed. You will not be uncovered until the waxing starts, as we know it can be very embarrassing for some people to expose themselves. At (un)SPA your technician is a registered nurse, licensed aesthetician, and an experienced waxer. I have also worked as a labor & delivery nurse for several years, so that is an area that I am very used to seeing and working on. My goal is to make the service safe and comfortable. After a brief consultation the areas to be waxed will be cleaned and an appropriate wax will be chosen for your skin type and hair type. I begin with waxing the inner thigh, to test your level of comfort. At that time most people say that it is not as bad as they thought, however if for some reason you are uncomfortable, the service can be limited to the bikini area alone, which is a much quicker treatment. Following the service, cooling toners and hydrators  are applied to cool and calm the skin.

Some additional tips to make your appointment a great experience: avoid caffeine two hours before your appointment to reduce skin sensitivity, take ibuprofen one hour before your appointment to reduce inflammation, and have your hair grown to 1/4 to 1/2 inch in length (if it is longer you can trim it before your appointment).
