The Acne Program and Acne Treatment @ Citrus Skin Studio

If you are suffering from acne, then it’s time for real answers. The dermatologist keeps giving you prescriptions that don’t work? Tried Proactiv and still breaking out? Considered going on Accutane, but think it’s too risky?

If you want clear skin, products alone will not solve your problem. You also need an acne specialist’s expert guidance.

Citrus Skin Studio offers you a clear skin system that will have your acne under control and keep it under control in approximately 12 to 16 weeks. Our comprehensive dual attack program uses pharmaceutical grade home-care products that are customized for your type of acne and skin combined with an in-office acne treatment series  that facilitates clear skin and gets rid of pimples and blemishes.

Using professional-strength exfoliants that need to be applied by a professional, your skin is treated to facilitate your process of clearing. The reason for treatments are six-fold:

  • To monitor your progress and make changes to your home-care as needed.
  • To exfoliate the skin so that home-care products can penetrate the pore more easily.
  • To lighten dark spots (if you have them) that are caused by acne lesions.
  • To hydrate the skin so that the skin is receptive to your home-care regimen.
  • To extract existing acne impactions.
  • To kill acne bacteria inside the pore.

Professional Acne Treatments by Citrus Skin Care will help you to get rid of acne and clear your skin more quickly than with just products alone. We also want to closely monitor your skin making sure that we are “pushing’ your skin to clear but not so much that your skin gets irritated. We are your partners in this process, working together so you can have clear skin as quickly as possible.

Each acne treatment has a specific focus for what the skin needs at the time of treatment. Sometimes the skin will need more hydration, other times it will need more anti-bacterial and/or anti-inflammatory action. We will analyze your skin at the beginning of every treatment to assess which treatment would serve you best. Treatments are performed every two weeks until your skin clears. Usually that takes anywhere from 12 to 16 weeks.

It typically takes about six treatments over a three-month period of time to get you mostly to completely clear; significant results will be seen within six weeks. After your acne is under control, you have to maintain your home-care regimen to keep your acne managed. It is also recommended to come in for a maintenance  acne treatment every few months just to keep your skin as healthy as possible.

Acne Program FAQ's

What is the acne treatment like?

Your treatment will include several steps including either a very mild chemical peel or a gentle enzyme. Generally speaking, neither of these are uncomfortable. There might be very mild peeling.

Do the extractions hurt?

For most people, there is a slight discomfort but it’s very tolerable.

Why do the extractions?

It’s the fastest way to get clear. Your current lesions are professionally extracted and the home care prevents the new ones from forming. It takes up to 90 days for acne to form and come to the surface, so in the three months that you are getting regular treatments, you will have some breakout. These are just old lesions coming to the surface and these will be extracted every two weeks at your treatment.

Do I have to use your products?

Yes. There are too many brands in the marketplace that have pore-clogging ingredients in them. Acne is tricky enough to treat – we do not want to take any chances with comedogenic products.

Do I have to get treatments?

It is in your best interest to get acne treatments from us. That is the fastest way to get clear. Additionally, your home care regimen is monitored and adjusted so that it is most effective at every stage of your course of treatment.

Do we take insurance?

Citrus Skin Studio’s services are not covered by traditional insurance plans, however many HSA’s and FSA’s will cover acne treatments and/or products. We recommend that you check with your plan to be sure.

How does Citrus Skin Studio's system work?

The system works by taking into account the type of acne you have, the type of skin you have and how fast your skin adapts to products. Your skin is then pushed to clear with products that penetrate the pore where acne starts. However, your skin is not pushed past its point of tolerance, because your skin could become dry and irritated. The products prevent the new acne lesions from forming; existing acne lesions are extracted and in about three months your acne is under control.

What do the peels actually do?

High quality blended corrective peels have multiple purposes including thorough exfoliation, softening of comedones and they lighten dark spots. They also prepare the skin for maximum absorption of the home care products.

What if I’m on other prescription products?

You will be required to stop your prescription products, before starting this course of treatment. Research has found that they make the skin much too sensitive to use the system.

Can I combine your regimen with another one that I have been on?

Acne is challenging enough to get under control. In order to eliminate the variables, only use our products.

How long does it typically take to get clear?

If you follow your home care regimen as prescribed and come in every two weeks for a treatment, you will most likely be clear in about three to four months. Some people might take a little longer depending on the nature of their acne.

Am I going to have to use these products forever?

You will need to use products to control your acne until you outgrow acne; and no one knows when that is. Many people do outgrow acne, but it is difficult to predict when, so you may have to use them for a while to manage your acne, but not forever.

Do extractions make my face red? What about if I have a special event coming up? When should I book my treatment?

Most people are quite red from getting extractions – there’s no way around it. So, you really need to plan ahead and make sure you do not have a special event within 24 to 48 hours of getting a treatment.

Is there anything that takes the redness away?

For women, Citrus Skin Studio offers an incredible mineral makeup that covers the red while still looking very natural. Unfortunately, there is no product that will take redness away. Only time can do that. Redness fades very gradually; and the acne usually goes away long before the redness subsides.

How long should I wait for a treatment if I have just gotten a peel/microderm/waxing from another place of business?

You would need to wait at least a week, preferably two weeks before you begin treatment and products.

What if I am pregnant?

Your acne can still be treated, but first you will have to get a list from your doctor as to what ingredients they want you to avoid.

Do you treat scarring?

If you have dark spots, then yes, those will be treated along with the acne. If you have pitted scars, then no, that is treated by a medical doctor.

Do you treat bumps on the arms aka keratosis pilarsis?

Yes, this condition is treated with pretty good results.
